Came across this story today. Apparently Gretzky and the LA Kings Owner bought a 1909 - 1911 T206 Honus Wagner Card for $451K in 1991. They then sold it to Walmart for $500K in 1995. It was last sold to Ken Kendrick in 2007 for $2.8M, the owner of the Arizona Diamondbacks and known for his $100M card collection.
That's a massive bump in terms of value over two decades. I wonder how much the card would be worth in today's market - Gretzky should have held on for that price!
Have never seen a ball quite like this. MINT dual signed ball of 2 of the top 4-5 hobby icons and the 2 that never made it to mass autograph shows etc. Beauty of a piece. Jealous of winner.
