I have a rather large collection of slabbed baseball rookie cards. I like old tobacco cards, and I enjoy dabbling in vintage Star Wars as well.

Boba Fett's finest vintage hour

Post image 1
Post image 2

Earlier this week I shared a family photo of a handful of the 1983 Myojo Noodles Star Wars cards, part of their Mecha series. These extraordinary stunning cards are hard to come by stateside, and each of the thirty cards in the series is an event unto itself.
So Boba Fett made some cardboard appearances in the early 80s, but there is honestly none finer than this one here. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, before retcons and Temuera Morrison, you had simple and honest shots like these making their way into the hands of excited kids in Japan, and luckily for me, into the permanent collection all these years later.

Star Wars

My first cards.

A few summers ago, I stumbled upon the very contents of the first pack of baseball cards I ever opened. My memory isn’t completely vivid, as it was over forty years ago, but my mom came home from the grocery store as she did so often, but this time she had something for me. I wasn’t a baseball fan, was only vaguely aware of the game in all likelihood; my first sporting memory was sitting in the basement of our split-level as my family went bananas as the USA hockey team beat the Soviets. Sometime after the Miracle on Ice, my mom brought me home that wax pack which immediately enthralled me. I was a beginning reader, so I read the names as best I could, studied the pictures, and tried to make sense of the numbers on the back. I was hooked, and I always hoped she’d bring home more whenever she went shopping!

As I continued buying cards, my mom always showed interest. One time she opened a pack of ‘84 Fleer with me, reading the names, and remarking to me how handsome she thought Scott Sanderson was. I don’t think she was ever thrilled at the quantity of cards my closet was jammed with, but she knew they made me happy, so she never said a word about them.

When I got back in the hobby as an adult, I had a few cards shipped to my parents’ house for safekeeping. One of them was my Hank Aaron rookie, and she asked me how much I paid for it. When I told her, she had a look of utter shock and crossed herself. I could tell she thought I’d truly lost my mind. I’m hoping that she has access to the PSA prices realized reports up in heaven, so she knows that her son has done okay with the card thing she got me started on all those years ago.

This was adapted from my Instagram page, inspired by @themerriment.

One for Presidents' Day!

Had to get this one in before the calendar turns to Tuesday. Here is an 1888 W. Duke and Sons Great Americans (N76) card of Abraham Lincoln, released just 23 years after his murder. Stunning image and colors on this piece of tobbaciana.. I'm thrilled to own this little slice of history featuring a truly heroic statesman.

Who remembers these? I was fortunate to get a set at a show not too long ago where someone very carefully housed them in cardboard and plastic sheets, ensuring no scratches or pricked finger tips.

What a delight it is to post here, instead of solely on another site where I first endeavored to share my collection. Looking forward to being a part of this community!

If you have never seen one of these rare beauties in person, you may have never fully had your breath taken away by a Star Wars card.
