He has been instrumental in advancing sports medicine. He co-founded the American Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI) in 1986, a non-profit organization dedicated to research and education in sports medicine. He also established the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama, and the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
