Dr. James Andrews is one of the most important non-athletes in sports. He was the best go-to doc for many serious orthopedic injuries of the biggest names in the game. He has been instrumental in advancing sports medicine. He co-founded the American Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI) in 1986, a non-profit organization dedicated to research and education in sports medicine. He also established the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama, and the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
Throughout his career, Dr. Andrews has treated numerous high-profile athletes, including Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, Drew Brees, and Roger Clemens. He has also served as a team physician for various professional and collegiate sports teams, such as the Washington Commanders, Tampa Bay Rays, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama.
