2002 Fleer Fall Classic Rival Factions #HG-JR ⭐ Hank Greenberg - Jackie Robinson
I've recently become enamored with the 2002 Fleer game-used rival factions series.
This one is fascinating.
Both men fought against and exhibited great courage when it came to civil rights, social pressure, and pioneering American history.
Greenberg was baseball’s first Jewish superstar and faced relentless anti-Semitic abuse from fans and opposing dugouts, especially as Adolf Hitler rose to power in the 1930s.
Robinson famously broke Major League Baseball's color barrier in 1947, enduring severe, systemic racial hatred.
The Famous May 15, 1947 Incident -- During a game in Robinson's rookie year, Greenberg had been traded to the Bucs, the two players accidentally collided at first base. Instead of turning hostile, Greenberg helped Robinson up. Later in the game, Greenberg told Robinson, "Don't pay any attention to these guys who are trying to make it hard for you. Stick in there." Robinson later told the press, "Class tells. It sticks out all over Mr. Greenberg"

Frank Baker and Babe Ruth were connected in several important ways, both historically and symbolically, during baseball’s transition into the live-ball power era.

The most direct connection is that Baker was considered baseball’s premier home run hitter before Ruth revolutionized the game. Baker earned the nickname “Home Run” during the dead-ball era after his dramatic World Series home runs for Connie Mack’s Philadelphia Athletics in 1911. At a time when league leaders often hit only a handful of home runs, Baker led the American League in home runs four consecutive seasons (1911–1914). His power was extraordinary for that era.

2002 Fleer Fall Classics Rival Factions Relics ⭐ Catfish Hunter - Tom Seaver
Tom Seaver and Catfish Hunter, two defining pitchers of the 1970s, faced each other in high-stakes matchups, most notably during the 1973 World Series where Hunter generally held the upper hand. Though Seaver would probably be noted by most as being the more dominant pitcher, Hunter claimed renown by winning the pivotal Game 6, of the '73 WS.
1973 World Series Matchups

• Game 2: Seaver and Hunter faced off in Oakland. Neither earned a decision in a tense 11-inning game, which the A's eventually won 3-2. Seaver threw 8 innings of 2-run ball with 12 strikeouts.

• Game 6: With the Mets leading the series 3-2, Hunter outdueled Seaver to force a Game 7. Hunter allowed one run over 7 1/3 innings, while Seaver, pitching on short rest, gave up two RBI doubles to Reggie Jackson, losing 3-1

2002 Fleer Rival Factions Game Used Bat-Jersey ⭐ George Brett & Kirby Puckett
Two elite hitters and franchise icons in the American League, but their careers didn’t overlap much.

George Brett’s prime was late 1970s through mid-1980s (especially his .390 chase in 1980).

Kirby Puckett’s peak was mid-to-late 1980s into early 1990s.
