This is a wild story. A seller on eBay sold a 1997 Michael Jordan Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems BGS card tagged "Authentic Altered" for $23,123,23 (seems odd too me). The card passes eBays authentication. Buyer questions the legitimacy of the card, the story got a lot of buzz on social media and so Beckett and eBay got involved. Beckett offers to reevaluate the authenticity of the card, and they determined the card is not a real Precious Metal Gem, it was in face a base card colored over with a red market 😂 eBay naturally refunded the buyer the $23k and even refunded the seller $23k as well.
Beckett was the one who screwed up the grading in the first place and was not accountable for any of it.
What do you think about this whole story? Should Beckett be responsible for this whole thing? Did the eBay seller know it was a fake and sold it knowingly?
Check out the video by Sports Card Investor. It's a crazy story.
