My vintage card of the week: The 1961 Topps Carl Yastrzemski “rookie star” card. Though not his rookie card, I prefer the look of this card by far to the 1960 Topps Yaz card. The full-size portrait and gorgeous background colors just make a stunning card. It's probably my favorite card from the 1961 Topps set.

Carl Yastrzemski, a Red Sox legend, played his entire 23-year career with the Sox.
He is widely regarded as one of the greatest all-around players in baseball history.
In 1967, he captured batting's Triple Crown and was voted A.L. MVP, while leading the “Impossible Dream” Red Sox to the pennant with an unforgettable season.
If that's not enough he is a member of the 3,000-hit and 400-HR clubs and a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
Yet his RC, here, is one of the most affordable of all the legends of the game.
