1972 Topps #79 ⭐ Carlton Fisk RC
On October 21, 1975, in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series, Carlton Fisk hit one of the most famous home runs in baseball history.
In the bottom of the 12th inning at Fenway Park, with the score tied 6–6 between the Red Sox and Reds, Fisk led off against pitcher Pat Darcy and hit a deep fly ball down the left-field line.

As the ball sailed toward the foul pole, Fisk waved his arms frantically, seemingly willing the ball to stay fair — and it did, striking the foul pole for a walk-off home run. The Red Sox won 7–6, forcing Game 7.

As the playoff race is nearing its end in baseball I am going with Fisk from my fav team the Red Sox’s. This is his second year card but like many of 70s sets rookie card was shared with others so like the solo card.

One of the best catchers in MLB history, and for sure one of the more memorable HRs in the annals of baseball. I have Fisk in my top 10 and maybe top 5 catchers of all-time. This rookie is in mid-grade. In person, when I met him in the early 90’s at spring training, he wasn’t super friendly….but maybe he just had a bad day! I feel like the ‘72 Topps set design gets overlooked, but the retro style has been growing on me and I need to pick up a few from the set!
