More than an Autograph

Post image 1

Many of my most distinct memories with collectibles are born out of getting autographs. Most of these baseballs came from my great uncle who happened to living near a golf course frequented by many retired MLB greats -- Cal, Pete Rose, Yaz, and Whitey Ford.

The Brooks Robinson one is special - not unique because he was so nice. Side note: I haven't heard one Brooksie story that didn't mention his kindness. My dad an I unexpectedly saw him at a JC Penny in Northern Virginia about 28 years ago where he was promoting a cologne. We met him and he signed a sponsored card. That wasn't enough for us. We had to make the most of this opportunity. With little time to spare we rushed back home and got a book and a ball. We rushed back to the same spot. Luckily he was at the tail end of his appearance. He remembered us, talked with us past his allotted time, gladly signed the book and personalized the signature on the ball to me. I still have the book and the card too.

If you all have any stories centered around getting autographs please share!

Post or share your favorite card with two or more HOFers on it.

Here is one of mine! It’s neither player’s rookie card but it is a legendary card with two legends that tells us a story of the passing of the torch in the NBA.

Easily my favorite card…

Two future Hall of Famers, Bryce Harper and the Phillie Phanatic on two PSA 10s. Card is not only a tough grade but a rare card that could become the most iconic Bryce Harper card in his career.

On card rookie autos were much easier "back in the day."

While I like what Topps is doing with the Debut patch, I do like the simplicity of vintage cards and having a just one card be the true rookie card and with an auto. I do think this is going to gain in popularity, vintage on card autos for a player's rookie card. These vintage (60s and older) will be even more rare since many of the greats have passed away or will soon pass. The ones I truly feel are even more special are ones that are on their rookie card, in a decent grade and with an inscription. I don't own this one, but this Kareem rookie is just amazing. It has a crazy inscription, plus he signed it Kareem on his rookie card which was under his original name. Truly love these and don't think modern ones can touch the vintage.
