the hobby is quirky. In vintage, a regular player card is almost always worth a lot more than an all-star card of the same player in the same year. I look at cards like this as a buying opportunity to get some of the cards I can’t afford otherwise (a trend you’ll see my collection has often. I zag when everyone zigs). Hobby purists love the 1968 Topps set. (I’m more partial to 1969). I was able to get this for <$50 at a local show while everyone else was buying shiny, over produced cards of Skenes, Elly, and Witt. I’ll take the Hank Aaron all day, every day.
One of my all-time favorite baseball cards. 1954 Topps Hank Aaron rookie auto. The card is in PSA 1-2 condition. There’s a crease. Centering and color and edges aren’t too bad and the autograph is nice and bold. I bought it 5 years ago at the National. It was one of the cards I was after. I saw 4-5 of them there in various cases from $1800-7500 depending on the dealer and condition. I was able to get one down for $1300 cash at the end. Super happy to get it. He passed away two years later, so thrilled I got it before he died. RIP to the king of the home run. Firmly locked away in my PC. Would love to add a real Josh Gibson card or ticket or relic one day. Shoot me a DM if you have one to move!
