On August 10, 1971, at Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis, Twins slugger Harmon Killebrew becomes the 10th member of the 500 Home Run Club. “Killer” hit 2 HRs on the day, his 500th and 501st HRs. The Twins still lost 5-4 to the Baltimore Orioles and Mike Cuellar.

Something I’m shocked I haven’t seen more of is people pairing the original Topps cards with their counterparts almost 50 years later.

I recently picked up this signed 1966 Harmon Killebrew, and it pairs perfectly with my 2015 Heritage Joe Mauer.

What would your dream duo be for an original Topps & Heritage combo?

Another favorite signed baseball of mine. I found this on eBay a few years ago and had to have it. I had recently been rewatching the old Home Run Derby show, and the Killebrew/Mantle matchup was a favorite episode. How great is that show by the way? I love getting to see the personalities of the players of that era in a laid back setting. Anyways, I love having a piece linking these two all time greats.
