Rookie card

Sandy Koufax

Off to PSA for the cross!

Post image 1

I picked this 1964 Topps Sandy Koufax autograph card up at a show today and wanted to share it before I send it off to PSA for dual grading.
This Sandy is a POP 49 in the PSA population report and I’m hoping to make mine #50!
The goal for this card is a PSA 2/8 with an expected grade of 1/7.

Sandy Koufax on the cover of Newsweek (October 1965)

Post image 1

Today is Sandy Koufax's 89th birthday! (Shout out to @benmburrows for the reminder.)

This beautiful cover shot features Koufax raring back on the mound in 1965, a season in which he racked up 382 strikeouts — by far the most in a single season of the modern era at the time. Eight years later, Nolan Ryan would eclipse this record by just one. (For reference, Tarik Skubal led the majors this year with 228.)

A few days after this issue hit newsstands, Koufax captured his second World Series MVP after allowing just one earned run in 24.0 innings pitched. Because Yom Kippur coincided with Game 1, Koufax started Games 2, 5, and 7, tossing two complete game shutouts on just two days rest to close out the series. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Mail Day! (Plus some advice needed)

Post image 1
Post image 2

Posted two weeks ago about finding a set of 1963 Dodgers Pinups at a card show. Out of my price range for the set (including 3 graded posters), but I was intrigued.

Dug around on eBay and found a seller with a sealed envelope of the pinups, for WAY less than the opened/graded set cost.

So now I have this awesome full-set of pinups with a Koufax I’d really like to get graded.

So here’s the question- what’s the best way to prep a non-card for grading with PSA? I’ve only ever submitted cards and this 8x10 poster is bigger and more fragile than a card, especially with no top loader to ship it in.

I also have a hopefully Type 1 photo to send in, same concern.

Any advice?

Card Show Finds: Dodgers Pin Ups

Fell in love with these, but they were being sold as a set and Sandy was the only one I wanted. A giveaway by the Dodgers back in the day (unlikely to have been as popular as Ohtani x Dog bobblehead night).

Looked great in the PSA slab.
