Hey, this is Denny from Instagram and YouTube (denny_cards) and I am SO EXCITED to help get a basketball cards centric group going here on Mantel. I know I am in various areas of The Hobby, but my time, energy, interest, and of course collection, always go back to BASKETBALL CARDS. It is the MOST egalitarian of all sports (equal to soccer), because all you need is a ball and a hoop. You don't need special equipment and accessories and permits to play at any time. If you have ever played pick up ball, you know that you can have instant chemistry with complete strangers on the court. That is the BEAUTY and MAGIC of basketball, and that is why I absolutely LOVE this game and always will. ❤ I have been a collector of basketball cards since the early 90's and my favorite player to collect was Michael Jordan (like almost everyone else in the 90's even if you hated the Bulls haha). Back then, social media did not exist and so the entirety of my card community was my neighborhood friends and reading Beckett magazine. I also collected from 2007 to 2012 when I was a young adult and went after my Florida Gators (Al Horford, Joakim Noah, Corey Brewer), and by extension, Kevin Durant (who is from the DMV area where I currently am from). Back then, social media was not what it is today and the online community for cards were only in blogs and forums, nothing like now, and that is why I am so excited for this group.
