Today’s spotlight is on two of the rarer pieces in my collection: Secret of Pizza Cat + Anniversaly Memorial.

These books are being posted together because they’re almost the same.

Secret of Pizza Cat was the first to be released - its a large book of art and stories from several artists. This book contains a fair amount of adult content, so it’s definitely not recommended for children. Despite this, it sold out quickly.

The Anniversaly Memorial was a reprint the best parts of Secret of Pizza Cat, with most of the adult content removed, and a few new pages. The Anninversary Memorial is a collection of 5 small books that are packaged together in a sturdy box, and a bold calligraphic font decorating the spines of the books. Each book is mostly focussed on a specific character or theme.

The Anniversaly Memorial is printed in a fanzine-style layout, and while unofficial, it’s an incredibly charming piece that captures the energy of the era.

Today’s spotlight is on an obscure side piece in my Samurai Pizza Cats archive — “Taose Karaoke Banchou!! – Tatsuya Souma Works Collection”.

This 162-page anthology, published by Bandai in 1992, gathers together multiple works by Souma — including a reprint of his official Kyattou Ninden Teyandee (Samurai Pizza Cats) manga.

If you already own Souma’s official SPC manga, the Teyandee material here is redundant — there’s nothing new for Pizza Cats, specifically.

The rest of the volume contains Souma’s other short works, several of which include nudity/adult humor. Because of this, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone outside of serious Souma or SPC collectors, and DEFINITELY not for kids.

For under $20, it’s still a worthwhile curiosity to document — showing the breadth of Souma’s style at the time, and how his Teyandee stories sat alongside more mature parody/gag manga.
