Released around the show’s original broadcast, these colorful PVC masks feature the three main Nyanki heroes — Yattaro, Pururun, and Sukashii — and were likely sold at Japanese matsuri (festival) stalls and toy shops as children’s costume accessories. They’re thin, vacuum-formed plastic with elastic string fasteners, and each captures the bold anime proportions of its character’s helmet design.
What Are “Festival Masks”?
In Japan, omatsuri masks (お面 / omote) are a long-standing tradition.
They’re inexpensive, lightweight face coverings representing popular characters, sold at summer festivals. In the 80s–90s, anime and tokusatsu series often received such masks — everything from Kamen Rider and Sailor Moon to Anpanman and Dragon Ball. They were made for children, not collectors, so finding surviving pieces in good condition today is rare.
Collector’s Insight:
These masks represent the earliest wave of Kyattou Ninden Teyandee merchandising. Because they were festival goods, they’re seldom boxed or cataloged — most were discarded after use. Complete sets like this are a treat for vintage anime memorabilia enthusiasts.
