Most PMGs are waaay out of my price range. Calbert Cheaney was at Indiana when I was in college in Bloomington. He was the best player (and my favorite college player) I ever watched. A silky smooth left handed who still has the all-time Big Ten scoring record. He never panned out as a superstar in the NBA. He doesn’t have a ton of super high end cards/parallels, so happy to have this one. Even though I had to overpay to get it!

I was never lucky enough to pull any PMG back when those were back in 1997. In fact, one of these started exploding a few years ago. I didn’t quite understand the appeal. But after holding a few in-hand, they have an

Otherworldly shine and glow to them that makes them really interesting, cool, different, and special. This is the only true PMG that I have. Thankfully, it’s from one of my favorite players Marvin Harrison benefited from having Peyton Manning as his quarterback. To me, he’s a top 5 to 10 wide receiver all time. These are very condition sensitive , so happy to have this as an SGC 7. Between PMG‘s, credentials, and Rubies I think PMG‘s get the most love. The credentials and rubies were already out of my price range but some of the later credential sets ( I specifically like the 2006-2007 basketball set) are still fun to chase.

1997 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems don’t come around like this.

Yes, this isn’t one of the iconic Precious Metal Gems parallels from Skybox Metal in 1996, 1997, or 1998. This is a rather late 2008-09 Skybox Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems of Celtics legend, and Hall of Famer, Paul Pierce. As a Pierce fan, and a Boston Celtics collector, this is still pretty cool. However, this is the weakest design and quality. Still, these can be had for a tiny fraction of much better PMG’s from earlier.

After years of hunting across auctions, private deals, and late-night DMs... I’ve finally done the impossible:

😱Completed the 2013 Upper Deck Employee Exclusive Purple Precious Metal Gems set - ALL in perfect PSA 10 Gem Mint😱

This is arguably one of the hardest modern sets on the planet to finish in 10s.

Only 6 cards exist in the checklist (each /125) made exclusively for Upper Deck employees as a “thank you” from the late Richard McWilliam.

Never packed out, never sold in stores - this was the very first time PMGs were ever done in purple 🤯 (that electric violet just hits different).

These cards almost never surface, and finding clean PSA 10 examples? Near-impossible.

Many thought finishing this full set was straight up impossible.
