I posted the team set over on Blusky, and I wanted to share it here too! (You can assume that the signatures aren't worth much. Lou Merloni might've been the most successful player on the team and I'm pretty sure he didn't sign it. But I was 9 and it was my first ever professional baseball game, so it's got hella emotional value 😊)
I’ve been helping a friend identify some sigs on a rough old ball. It was his great-grandfather’s ball and was stored in a sock (it’s now in a cube). The signatures are rough, but I was able to start with Fred Fitzsimmons - the clearest sig on there. I was able to find some authenticated sigs of him and felt comfortable about his signature. I was able to ID Fred’s signature with a pic my friend texted, but needed better shots of the ball. My friend brought it to work this week. As soon as I picked up the ball I noticed Hubbell’s sig. It’s very faded but has that loopy lefty lean. From there I started looking up NY Giants signed balls from the era and have matched 7! Those 7 fellas only played together on the Giants from 1930-32. Pretty excited about that. Hoping to figure out more of them and maybe pinpoint the year. I’ll post some images of the authenticated “source” ball next. It’s a 1932 NY Giants signed ball.
