He died at the young age of 35, in 1919, but his legacy remains as one of the early world champions whose career helped pave the way for others.

He holds the world record for the number of title bouts fought in a career with 37 (18 of which ended in no decisions). Ring Magazine and its founder rank Britton as the #3 best welterweight fighter of all time.
