Okay, Pizza Cats people. The last few days have been ABSURD, so here’s the giant pre-TGS news dump. 💚💜
We are now only TWO DAYS AWAY from Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past! / キャッ党忍伝てやんでえ ~復活のニャンキー! やっぱり明日は日本晴れ! getting its world-first playable demo at Tokyo Game Show 2026, beginning September 17 at the Red Dunes Games booth, Hall 7, N03. The demo will let players switch between Yattaro/Speedy, Sukashii/Guido and Pururun/Polly, with combat, platforming and completely new animated sequences created by Blast Zero in the style of the original anime.
And apparently Blast Zero decided that the appropriate way to prepare us for this was to OPEN THE FLOODGATES.
We’ve been getting an almost ridiculous stream of new screenshots, a short teaser trailer and a ton of new artwork, including beautiful new shots of the Nyankī, Otama, Karamaru and other familiar faces. The newly created animation continues to look uncannily faithful to the original series. Even the returning cast have commented on how impressive the recreation is. Ai Orikasa called the reproduction of the original anime’s look essentially “splendid,” while Koichi Yamadera said he initially thought the animation was old footage before learning that Blast Zero had made it from scratch. 😭💚
We’ve ALSO been getting behind-the-scenes material. Blast Zero has shown footage from the soundtrack recording sessions, including live orchestral musicians recording music for the game. Between that and the artwork being shared by the game’s art director, we’re suddenly getting these wonderful little windows into how this thing is actually being made rather than just seeing finished promotional material.

And then yesterday brought us some Japanese VOICE CAST NEWS.
Several original Japanese cast members are officially back:
Kappei Yamaguchi returns as Yattaro.
Ai Orikasa returns as Pururun.
Ken’yū Horiuchi returns as the Narrator.
Koichi Yamadera is officially back as Karamaru.
And, to my absolute delight, SATOMI KOOROGI IS BACK, NOT ONLY AS OTAMA, BUT SHE’S ALSO VOICING OMITSU (in the absence of late great miss Yuko Mizutani, RIP 💔). 💚
Seiichiro Yamashita voices Sukashii, succeeding original actor Jūrōta Kosugi. The Japanese script for the TGS demo is also being written by Satoru Akahori, the original anime’s series composer/scriptwriter.
Koorogi actually talks about returning to Otama after all these years and says that being able to deliver her familiar “Ikki-ma~su!” again made her happy.
😭 And Yamadera’s reaction might be one of my favourite details of this whole project: he was apparently shocked to discover that the anime sequences weren’t recycled footage.
Akahori himself describes being involved again 35 years later as a miracle and says the quality made him feel as though a genuine new Teyandee production had arrived.
Which pretty much captures why I’m losing my mind over all of this.
This isn’t just somebody licensing Samurai Pizza Cats, slapping the characters onto a competent platformer and collecting nostalgia money. Everything we’re seeing suggests that the people making it are ridiculously invested in getting the tiny details right, right down to rebuilding the visual language of a 1990 anime, bringing back as much of the original Japanese cast as possible, involving one of the original writers, and recording a proper soundtrack.
After spending decades being a fan of an IP that frequently seemed to exist in a cupboard Tatsunoko occasionally remembered to open…
THIS IS VERY WEIRD. I LIKE IT HERE.
And in two days, actual human beings are going to get their hands on the thing.

TWO. MORE. DAYS!
At this rate I fully expect Blast Zero to reveal tomorrow that they have located the original Pizza Cat restaurant brick by brick and reconstructed it in their office. 🤣
Straight from the official Blast Zero X account!
BLAST ZERO has officially announced that the upcoming Kyatto Ninden Teyandee / Samurai Pizza Cats game will be appearing at Tokyo Game Show 2026, and attendees won’t just be watching another trailer…
THE GAME WILL BE PLAYABLE.
Visitors at TGS will have the opportunity to actually get their hands on the game and try the demo for themselves.
This marks a major milestone for the project. Until now, we’ve primarily experienced the game through trailers, screenshots, and promotional footage. A public playable demo means fans attending Tokyo Game Show will finally be able to get firsthand impressions of how the game actually feels to play.
Hopefully this also means we’ll start seeing plenty of new information from the show, including gameplay impressions and perhaps a few additional surprises. 👀
BLAST ZERO has invited fans to come visit them at the event and says the team is looking forward to meeting everyone.
Alongside this announcement, they also dropped a GORGEOUS, but short (presumably) cutscene animation that has fans hungry for more!

A small schedule update for collectors: BellFine’s 1/12 scale Yattaro & Toritsukkun plastic model kit has been delayed by one month.
The kit was previously scheduled for release in August 2026, but BellFine’s updated release information now lists September 2026.
At this time, no specific reason for the delay has been announced, and a specific date hasn’t been disclosed. The listed price remains ¥8,140 (tax included).
It’s disappointing to see Yattaro slip after getting this close to release, but a one-month delay is thankfully fairly minor. Hopefully the extra time helps ensure everything is ready for a smooth launch, and that September 2026 sticks. ❤💙🤍
For anyone who already has the kit preordered, keep an eye on your retailer or proxy for any updated shipping information.

Another wonderfully obscure piece of Samurai Pizza Cats / Kyatto Ninden Teyandee history has been preserved! 🎉
Retro Reprints has completed its restoration of the 1990 Seika coloring book, and the remastered digital edition is now available for download as a PDF.
The book features plenty of vintage artwork from the original series, making it a fun little time capsule for fans and collectors, as well as a potentially useful source of character and artwork reference material. And unlike an increasingly difficult-to-find physical copy, you can actually enjoy this one without treating every page turn like delicate archaeological fieldwork. 😂
The digital edition is currently available for just $3 USD, with proceeds helping Retro Reprints recover and preserve additional vintage books.

I’ve already picked up my own digital copy! :3 ❤
One important note: out of respect for the work Retro Reprints has put into acquiring, restoring and preserving this material, I will NOT be redistributing my copy or making the PDF available for free. 🚫
At only $3, please support Retro Reprints directly if you’d like a copy. Doing so gets you the book while also helping them continue preserving obscure material like this for everyone to enjoy.
Another tiny piece of Pizza Cats history rescued from obscurity. 🥰📚🍕🐱

French publisher Black Box has released a new limited French-language edition of the original Samurai Pizza Cats manga by Tatsuya Sōma, with Noritaka Suzuki also credited.
This appears to be an unofficial French localization of the original 1994 manga, rather than an entirely new story like the upcoming North American release from Nakama Press.
The one-shot edition is currently listed for €7.99, with promotional shipping available through Black Box’s online boutique.
It is another welcome sign that the Pizza Cats are finding new life across multiple markets, with classic material being made available to a new generation of readers.
