What is “Shikishi”?
Shikishi (色紙) are traditional Japanese art boards made from thick, high-quality paper mounted on backing with gold foil edges.
Originally used for calligraphy, poetry, and autographs, they’ve become a popular medium for anime prints, illustrations, and seiyuu (voice actor) signatures.
- Mini Shikishi (ミニ色紙) are smaller, collectible versions often sold in blind packs, especially for anime or game collaborations.
- They feel sturdier than postcards but lighter than canvases, making them easy to display on easels, in frames, or alongside acrylic stands.
- Western collectors might compare them to “art cards,” but they have a uniquely elegant, tactile quality rooted in Japanese art tradition.
