I saw this card at a show and thought the colors looked great, so I decided to get it.
Lunghi won a silver medal at the 1908 London Olympics in the 800 meters. He was Italy's first track and field star and won national titles in 6 different running events. He also competed in the 1912 Olympics and coached at the 1920 & 1924 games.
So, this recent sale at Goldin was not my ticket. But what do you think about it? Too low? Too high? The ticket is 113 years old and from a meaningful historic event - the Olympic Debut AND gold medal for one of the greatest athletes of all time, Jim Thorpe. I was lucky enough t to be able to aquire the set of all 4 Thorpe 1912 Stockholm Olympic tickets from a prominent ticket collector about 5 years ago. Always looking for unique Jim Thorpe items - I’d anyone has any, shoot me a DM!
All the base cards in this release are holo foil. Not a huge fan of this because it makes every card seem like a parallel insert when they’re actually standard base.
Cool pick up! This will pair well with my Mark McGwire signed Olympic Debut Ticket from
The 1984 - the first Olympic Games that featured baseball as a display event! Super happy to have Mcgwire, Barry Larkin, Willl Clark and more all had their debuts! Can you recognize any others names
