Juan Soto loved the “Keep it Tight. Keep it Right” hitting philosophy coached by his former Nats (and current Phillies) hitting coach Kevin Long.
The phrase was his reminder to hit the ball up the middle and to the opposite field. Soto has described a hit to LF as one of the most satisfying things for him to do in a game. “To see the fade of the ball going to left field, I really do love it.”
Soto inscribed at least 5 of his 35 Topps Definitive Collection Autos from 2020 with the quote.
Citi Field is considerably more pitcher friendly against left handed hitters, but Soto does average 9.8 HR/AB at the Mets ballpark in 35 games, his best numbers at a park he’s played 15+ games in.
Will “Keep it Tight. Keep it Right” be Soto’s mantra in blue & orange the next 15 years?
