Sometimes when you really want a card, you just have to burn it all down. I have been dreaming of owning this card for years but the last 6-12 months that desire had more than doubled. It’s a card I’ve thought about almost daily for a while now. A true whale in this hobby. The last few weeks Ive had internal thoughts about selling a bunch of my cards and chasing a copy of Jackie’s 1948 Leaf.
Then I would tell myself “I’m not quite sure I’m ready to tell go of some of the cards I held closest to me”. But deep down this kind of always felt inevitable in a way.
Then yesterday happened. A well known collector/seller posted a nice copy of a ‘48 Leaf with the caption “for sale or trade”. I instantly knew what I had to do. I DM’d him and asked his trade value, he got back to me with a fair number and I told him I am going to cook up a nice trade for him. An hour and a half later, we had found ourselves in agreement on a monster trade involving close to $23,000 worth of cards. Some of those were really not easy to let go of but that’s when I remind myself that these opportunities don’t come every day and nothing I traded was really impossible to replace down the road.
So with that I remind people that sometimes in order to build the best collection that fits your wants and needs, you just have to burn it all down in the process.
