2006 Topps Triple Threads Relics Auto, Martinez, Bench, Mauer - BAT #1/1.
Two of the three catchers on this card are HOFers. Limited by injuries Victor Martinez was very, very good..
Martinez' accomplishments speak for themselves and are vastly underappreciated, IMO.
He was one of the best switch-hitting catchers/designated hitters of his era.
Here are the highlights of his career:
Career span: 2002–2018 (Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers).
Batting: Career .295 batting average, .360 OBP, .455 slugging, and 2,153 hits.
Power & production: 246 home runs and over 1,100 RBIs.
All-Star: 5-time All-Star (2004, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2014).
Awards: 2-time Silver Slugger winner.
Peak season: In 2014 with the Tigers, he hit .335 with 32 home runs and led the AL in on-base percentage (.409), finishing 2nd in AL MVP voting behind Mike Trout.
Versatility: Started as a catcher but later transitioned to first base and DH due to age and injuries.
"Nuff said.
