Hey guys, this is the view of one of my walls near my desk at work. Yes, some people put diplomas, awards, and certificates on their walls. Not me! Instead. I have original pieces of art from urban artists all around the world. This gallery-style look is both visually appealing, albeit a little cluttered. Still, I can enjoy looking at the intricacies of these pieces while I hammer out emails and take meetings! If anyone wants to know about anything specific, I’d be happy to share details about the artist or piece!

Shepard Fairey is the modern day pop Warhol. Creating amazing imagery en mass. But his true origjnals have a ton of value. This original painting on wood is one of #6 Hand-Painted Multiples (HMP) of a classic mandala with the OBEY iconography that he is known for.

For those not involved in the art scene, the infamous, anonymous street artist known as Banksy opened up a hotel with an art focus a few years ago called the “Walled Off Hotel”… A take on the Waldorf hotel. He had local sculptors create small pieces of the retaining wall for sale to bring money to the region. These little mini wall sculpture pieces are highly collectible and very valuable. Especially the bigger wall sections like the ones picture here.

I find skulls and human anatomy, fascinating! I took a few bronze casting classes, where you sculpt out of wax, then place the wax in a plaster or cement structure with venting. You then melt out the wax and pour in molten bronze. After it cools, you take a hammer to the plaster and have a raw sculpture. You trim off the vents and then polish and patina and finish your sculpture. This is an ancient form of sculpting known as the lost wax method. The patina that you see on this skull is caused by natural oxidation and rapid cooling of the molten bronze. The piece is small, about the size of a softball, but weighs 17 pounds, as bronze is super dense!

It’s been so long, I forget the original artist. But this is about 10 years old. Very early on in the process of developing 3-D printers, an artist I followed had a Kickstarter where he produced these 3-D printed skulls. I’ve always been fascinated with human biology, architecture, art, and sculpture. 3-D printing allowed sculpture to take a different form. While not worth a lot of money, this piece sits on my desk next to another skull, which I will share later today. I think it’s cool, intricate design is fascinating to look at.
