$200,000 in Cash, Goods Stolen from Vehicle at National Sports Collectors Convention

There was a major theft outside the National Sports Collectors Convention last month.

From @sportscollectorsdaily

These card-related robberies are becoming way too common. Be careful out there, friends.

1937 Rogers Hornsby O-Pee-Chee Baseball Card

Post image 1

This is my first time buying a prewar O-Pee-Chee baseball card.

While most vintage baseball collectors know about the baseball cards issued in the 60-90s the OPC brand first started in 1937. The set features expensive cards of Bob Feller and Joe DiMaggio which are some of the most desireable cards from the 1930s.

I was able to pick up this Rogers Hornsby on the first day of the show. Hornsby IMO is one of the best baseball players that is overlooked within the card collecting hobby. He has a career 127 WAR with a lifetime .358 batting average as a 2nd basemen.

1902 F&J Smith Victor Trumper

Post image 1

I was gifted this card during the National this year. The F&J smith sports set was issued in Scotland in 1902 and features famous Golfers and Cricketers.

Cards can be found with 3 different color backs: Red, Blue, and Black.

While I’m not chasing the different back colors (These cards are hard enough to source…..) I was missing a Victor Trumper in my collection.

Trumper is widely considered one of the greatest cricket players. On the baseball side of things he would be equivalent to a Ty Cobb caliber player

5 Gold Medals & The First Tarzan

Post image 1

Johnny Weissmuller was a renowned American swimmer and actor, best known for winning five Olympic gold medals, three of which he earned at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games.

His exceptional athletic achievements made him a household name, and he later transitioned into a successful acting career, most famously portraying Tarzan in a series of popular films.

This card, issued in 1936 or 1937 by Globo, is an exceptionally rare French collectible. These cards are notoriously difficult to find, and they seldom appear for sale online. I'm still on the lookout for the elusive Jesse Owens card from this series.

I picked it up from a seller at the National that flew in from Italy!
