Joe DiMaggio isn’t just a baseball legend—he’s a true American pop icon whose influence reaches far beyond the diamond.
He was the face of the New York Yankees and would be on the Mt. Rushmore of NY Yankees, if one existed.
But DiMaggio’s cultural impact grew and extended throughout his life off the field—his high-profile marriage to Marilyn Monroe, his enduring presence in pop music through Mrs. Robinson, and his success as a commercial figure, most notably as the longtime spokesman for Mr. Coffee, which introduced him to a new generation.
Add in the fact that Joltin' Joe was born to Italian immigrants and became a symbol of the American immigrant success story, representing the rise of Italian-Americans into the cultural mainstream.
Altogether, his athletic greatness, business presence, and cultural symbolism have cemented DiMaggio's place in American history.

I adore the nostalgic black & white cards produced by the Exhibit Supply Company beginning in 1921.
The cards are postcard sized and were available for purchase from Arcade Machines for a penny each.
I'm not a Yankees fan, per se, but this one is one of my favorites.
Lefty Gomez was Joe DiMaggio's first roommate for road games when Joe was called up to the Majors.

On August 12, 1940, the Indians and Tigers were tied for first place with matching records, 64-44. Each side pitched their "Ace", Bob Feller for the Indians and Hal Newhouser for the Tigers. It was the first time the two aces faced each other in their careers with Feller leading the Indians to an 8-5 victory. In doing so, Feller became the first 20-game winner in MLB that year. Bullet Bob went on to win 27 games that year.
