Calbert Cheaney Indiana Hoosiers Skybox Rubies

Post image 1

My next Cheaney appreciation post. Since he didn’t have a lot of high end stuff made, I picked up this Skybox Rubies (retro from 2012-2013). It’s a super cool card and #/150. Not expensive. Maybe $20? But still cool to me. Again, cards don’t have to be expensive to be cool/desirable/collectable. Go Hoosiers!

Calbert Cheaney Indiana Hoosiers Upper Deck patch auto

Post image 1

Calbert Cheaney, the smooth left-handed from Evansville, Indiana was still the best and most complete player I’ve seen in person at the college level. He will always be one of my favorite Indiana Hoosiers players. Sadly, he doesn’t have a ton of super rare or high end inserts coming just a little too early in 1994 to catch the late 90’s insert/parallel wave. Here is one of my favorites, an Upper Deck (manufactured) patch auto.

1998-99 Fleer Classic ‘61 Calbert Cheaney #/61

If you’ve seen my other posts, Calbert Cheaney was one of my favorite college stars at Indiana University. He doesn’t have a lot of high-end cards but he does leave this one from a very highly desirable late 90’s set, the Classic ‘61 parallel. I had to overpay to get this, but happy to have it in my Calbert Cheaney collection!

Calbert Cheaney autographics century marks - Jersey numbered!

So not a big card to many. But he played at Indiana when I went to college there. He was the best player I’ve ever seen live in college (other than Glenn Robinson, maybe). He was a smooth left-handed with a great shot. I’m still surprised he didn’t do more in the NBA. He doesn’t have many BIG cards as he was early 90’s and didn’t make a lot of the big late 90’s inserts. So this is one of my favorites - love the early Skybox autographics sets especially the Century Marks versions. And this is my own special 1/1 as it’s jersey numbered. So I had to overpay for it. But I’m good with that.
