In my defense, my friend Bob and I were left unsupervised. Hear me out...
On Friday night, we went to the Dallas Card Show in Cincinnati (actually hosted in Northern Kentucky—don't get me started on how confusing that is.)
In the past, Bob and I have nerded out at plenty of card shows together. This one did not get off to a great start. However, everything changed when Bob told me I needed to see what was a few tables away.
The 1992 Dream Team Starting Lineup set—in GREAT condition. (I've been looking for one on and off for years.) When I asked the father & son at the table to name their price, they told me, "No, we're not selling things individually. We're selling by the (Home Depot) box." A relative had passed and they wanted to clear out as much as possible.
They made me an offer I couldn't refuse; two boxes loaded with Starting Lineup for what I would have happily paid just to get the 92 Dream Team.
2 medium sized Home Depot moving boxes.
82 Starting Lineup boxes.
101 figures.
Full list in the comments. Let me know if you want one...or a dozen.
These always bring me some nostalgia. I still have some Starting Lineups (SLUs) from back in the day. I’m surprised they aren’t more collectable, TBH. At current prices, I can’t see selling them - especially the cooler pieces like the Nolan Ryan multi unit piece. The cards, however, still have some value depending on the player. They are extremely hard to grade well as they banged around in the clear sealed plastic. Still looking for a 1988 Reggie Miller that is in decent condition and not super expensive! I have two Jordan’s this one and an ungraded one (that is likely in PSA 7 grade or so). But they are still cool!starting
