You might say that I have a sweet spot for sweet spot autographs. Upper Deck hit it out of the park with these. The beautiful simplicity of having an autograph on a baseball with the convenience, ease, and aesthetic of a baseball card. How can you resist one of these of a top 3 player of all-time? Glad I got to meet him briefly in my teens and get a card (1961 Topps) signed by him as well.
To follow up on my last post with a Reggie Jackson game-used bat barrel card, the quad is complete - 1) bat barrel card. 2) game used patch auto 3) 1969 Topps rookie auto and 4) sweet spot baseball auto.
My love of sweet spot/sweet shot signatures is well documented in my Mantel posts. I wish this was in his Seattle or even his Reds uniform as Griffey is not known (and looks weird) in a White Sox uniform - but it’s the signature with the inscription that I really like. These are still readily available and aren’t super expensive. I might pick up a few others that have different inscriptions on them.
Can’t go wrong with a signed card of “The Captain”. I love sweet shots cards. It’s like having a single signed baseball but easier to store and hold in your hand. Outside of the 2007 fading ink debacle, these are some of my favorite autographed cards.
